Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of World Scouting, was born on February 22, 1957, so today is his 160th birthday. Scouts all around the world celebrate February 22 as “Founder’s Day.” His wife, Olave Baden-Powell, who for many years was the head of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, was born on February 22, 1889. (Yes, she was exactly 32 years younger than he was.) The World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts celebrates February 22 as World Thinking Day. There is a Scouting magazine blog from 3 years ago on Founders Day at http://blog.scoutingmagazine.org/2014/02/21/7-ways-to-celebrate-baden-powell-on-founders-day-his-birthday/

Last year Colorado became the first state in the nation to designate a statewide holiday that recognizes the many benefits provided by our parks, forests, and other public lands.
In an effort to help establish this as a tradition for years to come, Conservation Colorado is working to ensure community leaders, businesses, government agencies, grassroots organizations, etc. are aware of this day and are able leverage it toward achieving their own goals, while also making the inaugural Colorado Public Lands Day (Saturday, May 20th) a smashing success.
To help contextualize the opportunity below is a list of suggested ways your organization might participate:
· Organize guided hikes
· Host a stewardship project
· Encourage municipalities and/or agency partners to organize free outdoor activities
· Run a social media campaign
· Partner with a guide shop to host free classes (fishing, rock climbing, mountain biking, etc).
· Have a happy hour
· Host a fundraiser
· Invite a guest speaker to an event
Thanks for your interest, and I look forward to working with you in establishing a tradition that will last for generations to come.

If you would like to help the Catholic scouts in your troop (or neighboring troops) or parish, this is the training for you. The AAD emblem is targeted for scouts who are 13-14 though older scouts can earn this as well. Females in Venturing are now also eligible to work on this emblem. The program is organized in chapters based on the seven Sacraments. The seven Sacraments are a primary means toward spiritual growth.
